The cost of a Starlink installation in the UK comes in two parts: what you pay Starlink for the hardware and the monthly plan, and what you pay an installer to mount the dish, route the cable and make the connection usable inside the property. The first part is published by Starlink. The second varies from job to job, and this guide explains exactly why, so you can compare quotes properly.
What you pay Starlink
Starlink’s UK site, checked on 22 October 2026, lists Residential plans starting at £40 a month for the 100 Mbps tier, £60 for the 200 Mbps tier and £80 for Residential Max, with Roam plans for travel from £55 a month. Hardware is sold separately and the price changes with promotions, so enter your address on Starlink’s UK page for the current figure. These are Starlink’s prices, not SpaceTek’s, and they apply whoever installs the kit.
What a professional installation includes
- A look at the site, either from photographs and the Starlink app’s obstruction check or in person, to choose a dish position with a clear view of the sky.
- The mounting hardware: wall bracket, pole and brackets, roof mount or a non-penetrative flat-roof mount, with fixings chosen for the wall or roof.
- Safe access to the mounting position and the work at height.
- A weatherproof cable route into the building, with a sealed entry point and the cable clipped or concealed.
- Router placement, testing of the connection where it will actually be used, and setup of the Starlink app on your phone.
- Aftercare from the person who did the work.
What makes one installation cost more than another
- Mounting type. A wall bracket on an accessible gable is the simplest case. A pole above the ridge line, a roof mount that needs flashing, or a ballasted flat-roof mount each add hardware and time.
- Height and access. Anything that cannot be reached safely from a ladder, such as a three-storey gable or a steep roof, may need a tower or scaffold, and that is usually the single biggest cost difference between two otherwise similar jobs.
- Building material. Brick is quick. Thick stone, rendered insulation, timber cladding and old lime mortar need different fixings and more care, as in this Tideswell stone property.
- Cable route. A short external run to the nearest room costs less than a concealed route through the building to a home office at the far end. Tell the installer where the router needs to end up before the route is chosen.
- Networking. Ethernet runs to a desk or television, mesh Wi-Fi, access points or a link to an outbuilding are separate items. They are often the difference between a dish that works and a house that is connected.
- Your kit or theirs. SpaceTek installs hardware you have bought directly from Starlink, so you can buy the kit at Starlink’s price and pay only for the installation.
- Distance. Travel is built into most quotes; jobs within the usual service areas are the simplest to price.
Is doing it yourself cheaper?
If you can place the dish on its kickstand at ground level with a clear view of the sky, Starlink’s own setup is straightforward and an installer adds little. The case for professional help is a roof or wall position, a cable through the building, an exposed site, or a property where one router will not cover everything. This guide weighs the two options honestly.
How to get an accurate quote
A useful quote needs five things: your postcode, a photograph of the wall or roof you have in mind, where the router needs to be, whether the kit has already arrived, and any outbuildings or rooms with poor Wi-Fi today. SpaceTek quotes every job individually from that information, and you do not need to climb onto the roof to get one.
