A larger Wilmslow home may have a study, an extension and an annex all relying on the same internet connection. Installing Starlink does not automatically make one router cover those spaces. Plan the indoor network around the rooms you actually use.
Start with a room-by-room brief
Mark the main work desks, televisions and regular call locations on a floor plan. Note solid walls, changes in floor level and any existing Ethernet points. Include an annex or garden room explicitly rather than assuming it will receive the same coverage as the house.
Avoid choosing the router position by convenience alone
The easiest cable entry may be at one end of the property. That can be a sensible place for the connection to arrive, but additional network equipment may be needed elsewhere. A router hidden in a cupboard behind substantial walls is a compromise that should be discussed before the route is installed.
Use existing cabling where it is suitable
Have existing network points and their termination checked. A working wired route can connect a desk or feed an access point without depending on Wi-Fi crossing the whole house. Where a mesh system is proposed, ask how its units connect to each other and whether the selected positions provide a reliable link.
Do not add several unrelated extenders simply because individual rooms are weak. A planned layout is easier to support and test, and avoids solving one room while creating confusion elsewhere.
Agree a useful handover
- Test the important rooms with the devices normally used there.
- Check that wireless devices reconnect as you move between covered areas.
- Record which equipment belongs to Starlink and which provides the internal network.
- Keep the network name and recovery instructions somewhere accessible to the household.
