A strong Starlink connection outside a Longridge property can still leave an upstairs room or converted part of the house with poor Wi-Fi. The satellite link and the wireless network inside are separate parts of the installation. Thick masonry makes that distinction especially important.
Find where performance changes
Test using the same device close to the router and again in the room where service is poor. Keep the time and activity similar so the comparison is useful. If the difference is large, investigate indoor coverage before moving the dish or changing your Starlink plan.
Draw a floor plan showing solid walls, extensions and the rooms that matter most. Include where mains sockets and existing data cables are available. This gives the installer more useful information than a request for the strongest possible router.
Give each access point a reliable connection
A wired access point receives its network connection over Ethernet and creates Wi-Fi locally. It can be a practical solution when thick walls block the route from the main router. Existing cable should be checked rather than assumed usable, particularly in older conversions.
A mesh system may also help, but each wireless node needs a good link back to the rest of the system. Putting a node in the dead spot can leave it repeating a weak connection. Where cable routes are possible, wired connections between compatible mesh units can make the layout less dependent on signals crossing masonry.
Agree how success will be checked
- List the desks, televisions and rooms that need dependable coverage.
- Identify devices that could use a wired connection instead of Wi-Fi.
- Check the intended locations after installation, including movement between floors.
- Keep a record of equipment locations and how to contact the installer for support.
