Reviewed 22 October 2026. Amazon Leo is Amazon’s satellite broadband network, formerly called Project Kuiper. This guide explains the name, how the service works and how to check UK availability without treating an announcement as an order you can place today.
Is Amazon Leo the same as Project Kuiper?
Yes. Amazon’s UK service overview records the change from Project Kuiper to Amazon Leo on 13 November 2025. They are successive names for the same project, not two competing broadband services.
You may still see Kuiper in older articles or equipment discussions. When comparing offers, look for the current provider, terminal model and service terms. A familiar project name on a third-party advert does not establish that a subscription is available.
How does Amazon Leo work?
A terminal at the property communicates with satellites in low Earth orbit. The wider system also needs ground stations and network connections to carry traffic to its destination. “Satellite internet” does not mean the service is independent of every ground-based network.
The outdoor connection and your indoor Wi-Fi are separate parts of the installation. A good satellite signal at the terminal will not automatically give strong Wi-Fi through a stone wall or into a detached workshop.
When can UK customers order?
Amazon says the UK will be among the first countries for general service. Its overview describes an enterprise preview that began in November 2025 and a wider rollout during 2026. These statements do not specify service availability for every UK address.
At this review, the official Amazon Leo UK website invites people to join an updates list. We have not verified a public address-specific UK consumer order or tariff through that page. Joining a mailing list is not a reservation, installation booking or guarantee of a start date.
If a provider offers service to your property, ask for the activation date, equipment supplied, complete charges, cancellation terms and support arrangements in writing before committing.

Common questions
Does a UK rollout announcement mean I can cancel my current broadband?
No. Keep the connection you need until a replacement has been ordered, installed and tested. For a business, test essential applications and any backup arrangement before changing the existing service.

Should I fit a permanent mount now?
